I lost it in first year ...



today Google is celebrating something ... and as usual insyaAllah ... curiosity does not kill this cat ...

it's about this guy ...





of course i remember him ... and many similar others ... in mathematics

equations ... equations ... equations ... functions ... transform (bukan PM Najib's transformation ye) ...

I lost to Calculus in Year 1 of Bachelor years ...

i just scraped through ... and got through AlhamduLillah ...

let's see what about mathematics that are so out of this world ... for some ... but part of the daily menu for others ...

when i read through wikipedia's history of Euler (sounds like oiler) ... i realized this interest and expertise was nurtured ... it was part of his Daily Menu so to speak ...

he was brilliant no doubt ... great memory ... but he was also surrounded and guided and his brain stimulated by masters in that and related fields ...

since young the brain was challenged at all times ... to think!

(unlike my tendency to avoid thinking ... that's why I lost it ... hehe)

a bit about him ... and what he did ...


Euler is the only mathematician to have two numbers named after him: the immensely important Euler's Number in calculus, e, approximately equal to 2.71828, and the Euler-Mascheroni Constant γ (gamma) sometimes referred to as just "Euler's constant", approximately equal to 0.57721. It is not known whether γ is rational or irrational.

hmmm ... i think i would be remembered by my Irrational Number ... the infinite no of times that i have gone irrational ... hehe

called "the most remarkable formula in mathematics" by Richard P. Feynman, for its single uses of the notions of addition, multiplication, exponentiation, and equality, and the single uses of the important constants 0, 1, e, i and π.[26] In 1988, readers of the Mathematical Intelligencer voted it "the Most Beautiful Mathematical Formula Ever".[27]

Eyesight deterioration

Euler's eyesight worsened throughout his mathematical career. Three years after suffering a near-fatal fever in 1735 he became nearly blind in his right eye, but Euler rather blamed his condition on the painstaking work on cartography he performed for the St. Petersburg Academy. Euler's sight in that eye worsened throughout his stay in Germany, so much so that Frederick referred to him as "Cyclops". Euler later suffered a cataract in his good left eye, rendering him almost totally blind a few weeks after its discovery in 1766. Even so, his condition appeared to have little effect on his productivity, as he compensated for it with his mental calculation skills and photographic memory. For example, Euler could repeat the Aeneid of Virgil from beginning to end without hesitation, and for every page in the edition he could indicate which line was the first and which the last. With the aid of his scribes, Euler's productivity on many areas of study actually increased. He produced on average one mathematical paper every week in the year 1775.[3]

 ... now in this respect i was reminded of a Qur'an Hafiz who defended his PhD thesis ...

when answering queries from the examiners he would direct them to the actual page no in which the matter was discussed ... he has memorised more less his thesis hehe ...

i believe Quran memorising helps thinking and cognitive development a great deal ... this is why i appreciate in what's being done in Brunei Darussalam Yayasan Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah ... developing Hafiz and Hafizah and mastering the arts and the science ... AlhamduLillah ...

i am sorry i am not familiar with the Malaysian situation ... my familiarity with the Brunei situation is through my dearest sister, Hajjah R's children's experience

i love that animation about the constant Pi ... do it outside with gelung rotan or balls of different sizes (anything round for that matter ... pinggan pun boleh ... update baru lepas makan kejap ni ...:) with the children ... measure, calculate and prove ... sure they'll love it ...

    1. wah kaktek add maths dalam BM ye ... tu sudah sangat terrer ... kamil tu kalau saya nama orang! mengong sungguh hehe ...

      i only appreciated the beauty of calculus when a professor introduced us to "Laplace Transform" (sile gugle hehe).kami guna untuk computer aided design for hydraulic engineering. barulah nampak ada guna rupanya benda ni! tapi tak pandai juga sebab dah lewat by then. But i can appreciate it now :)

      so i was thinking anak anak kita ni bolehlah guide them to appreciate it now kannn?

    2. As Salam Real... kamilan tu sebab skolah kt msia.. hehe.. i used laplace transform 4 yrs masa circuit theory and since i hate it so much, grad je terus lupa formula tu untuk apa... haha haru.. nasib baik homemaker tak perlu calculus.

      i am a strong believer in guru memainkan peranan yang sangat penting for student tu suka a subject ... they can make an exploration or an adventure of logic and practice out of it ...

    4. Assalam kak real..
      My add maths teacher had to be hospitalised due to a heart attack after our peperiksaan akhir penggal pertama. The whole class failed!! Hahahahaah... Kesian cekgu..
      Nasib baik i lulus add maths masa SPM, walaupun dapat P8, at least i tak fail dan wujudla jugak dlm sijil yg i ada amik add maths.. Dedulu kalu fail subjek, dia tak appear dlm sijil... Phewwww
      And sampai skrg ni, i think mathematics, calculus and everything that involves numbers just hated me with a vengeance.. Except for accounting.. Sbb i suka kira duit... LOL!

      kesiannnnya cikgu ... how was he/she? kesian juga anak murid yang fail ...

      memang agaknya stress cikgu ngajar add maths pada anak murid yang tak faham apa gunanya lah differentiation, integration tu ... wei memang tension ... alhamduLillah you managed it despite the problem :)

      lama SF cuti eh :)

    6. cikgu (she) was ok after that.. well.. she took us thru SPM and what not and like i said, i passed., (walaupun tak pernah lulus sebarang exam hatta kuiz sekalipun sepanjang 2 thn belajo add maths.. :)
      cuti balik kampung sis... hihihihihihihi
