Adik yang sabar ...

Adinda yang sorang ni ...
Syukur Allah SWT detikkan dalam hati ayahanda untuk memberinya nama begitu ...
namanya membawa makna sabar ...

Semalam daku menerima panggilan dan ter missed pula ...
terdengar dari bilik mandi ...

terasa mungkin penting ... keluar and checked call ...
adindaku yang sangat dikasihi ...
mesti penting ...

called back ...
berbalas salam ... kak'mbong kat mana (now taulah kite ni anak sulong) ...
kat rumah sedang mandi ni ... buih sabun di badan ...

mesti ada hal penting ...
tak de lah ... tak penting ... manja je bunyinya...
saje nak bagi tau ambong ... aku dah lulus first level ...
AlhamduLILLAH syukur ... (menitis air mata kerana masih ingat kat kak'mbongnya to share the good news ...)
dah bagi tau Az (suaminya yang berada di perantauan)...

AlhamduLILLAH ... syukur tahniah ... perlahan-lahan insyaALLAH ...
tu lah Am (anak sulongnya, Year 5 Primary) pun cakap masa sibuk prepare exam ... mama janganlah stress ... :)

Tahniah adindaku yang sabar** ... for passing your L1 QS professional certification*** ...

The Possible ...

Seorang anak had her last day in school yesterday ... she completed her final days to obtain the Ijazah Pendidikan (Mathematics & Science) from an IPTA (Institut Pengajian Tinggi Awam) ...

InsyaAllah she is going to be a teacher ...

Don't mind ye ... sume saya panggil school ... macam school of engineering, school of architecture ... macam tu lah ...

Apa special nya anak ni pula ...

Dia datang dari jauh ... from the inner villages in the middle of nowhere ...

in the heart of the rainforest ....where most of us fikir ... tak terfikir macam mana ... :)

Her life story is of perseverance and persistence ...

reflects that many things are possible ...

when appropriately scaffolded ...

i took her for an early dinner  yesterday ... and found her something that hopefully will be useful ...

because she said ... if Puan nak belikan saya ... then i need a watch ...

earlier i asked do you need a purse or something like that ...

Demi masa ...

Mudahan that watch reminds her the temporal nature of this life and why we are here... insyaAllah

This anak ... soon to be teacher ... is of the Indigenous Jakun Community ...

more about the community below ...

Tetiba ... pi ziarah Dr DLL ... woi ... pun dapat jam berkelip-kelip ... hadiah graduation ...

esei tak mampulah pulak nak bagi camtu kat anak tu ... he he ...

Train of life ...

Love the train ... and the train ride ...

Our main means of conveyance ... pergi dan balik sekolah yang jauh di mata emak dan abah ...

Lega dan you can pusing-pusing ... kalau keretapi malam zaman sekolah dulu ada cafe (tak ingat nama sebenar) sekali dalam train ... lepas tu kat station-station yang di mana berhenti ada pula orang dewasa dan kanak-kanak naik atas train ... jual teh, kopi panas ... kacang-kacang goreng dan kuih muih melayu ...

Penat duduk, bangkit ... you can gulp in fresh air from the platform in between the coaches ...

Masa budak-budak tu dengan school uniforms tak malulah berjalan kehulu kehilir jumpa kawan di coach sini sana ...

aduh ... indah-indah ... ni musim deepavali ni teringat pula ... train malam ni bila hampir stesen dia slow down ... track terang benderang ... kita nampaklah pekerja keretapi buat itu buat ini kat track-track lain ... yang ingat ramai pekerja india ... masa tu suka sangat berdiri kat platform ... terjerit-jerit wishing Pak Cik- Pak Cik tu happy deepavali ... i can still remember their happy faces when they heard us and looked up ...

... simple life, simple happiness ...

Sekarang pula naik komuter ... tak de apa-apa ...

Pergi kampus semalam ...  hampir-hampir je terlepas connecting train ... sebab sedetik je (perasaannya lah) perhentiannya ... lepas tu nak pergi ke track lain ... naik tangga turun tangga ... lif ada ... but yesterday ada juga yang tak berfungsi ... lesson learned mesti always travel light ...

Tetapi kan ... kenapa macam tu ye constructionnya ... kalau boleh luggage tu tak payah nak jinjing-jinjing ... tarik je all the way ...

kenapa tak drive je ... itulah dalam train macam-macam boleh buat ... lagi kalau pagi-pagi - caught the 5.30am yesterday - train tu macam kita je punya - i love it ... sempat lagi nak staple-staple papers for discussion, semak-semak lagi ... solat subuh atas train ... siap-siap wuduk dari rumah ...

... baliknya ngantuk boleh tidur relax-relax ... takut terlajak put on tel alarm macam orang depan saya ... dia tidur alarmnya kejutkan ...

... and one more thing ... excellent for ethnographic studies ...

Bullet train of Japan ... source: http://www.ubergizmo.com

... Di jepun many moons ago ... sempat lagi merayau dengan Ms M naik bullet train dari Narita ke Ueno and back sementara tunggu connecting flight ... bila kami terlambat sangatlah sejuk muka in-charge mr. japan yang nak bawa kami ke airport ...

... it was spring at the time ... source: http://www.storyboardtoys.com/gallery/Shellie.htm

... mmm ... memories ... to drive the future :)

Sisters

Yes ... Not the ones that you are born with... But the ones that you acquired along the life's complicated and winding journey. Recently I noticed that these beloved sisters of mine (a British, a Singaporean and a Sarawak-Bruneian)  have R as their initials. And my mum and dad tooo...! Of course mother was never known by her birth name. She has her special name ... S. My other beloved sister in Dimondale* has S for an initial too.

My British Sister R I met in Walsal. But the beginning was in Brunei where both Singapore Sister R and I were working with the Government Educational concerns.

I wanted very much to get that Masters. What to do? I talked about it with Singapore Sister R who completed her Masters in IT in the UK using her own fund. How did you do it? How much do you need? So many questions ... and her answers and guidance gave me the courage to send in the notice for resignation. Ten years on the job and I had enough to tide me over the 1 year program and extra for the family, alhamduLILLAH.

She said you'll need about 10,000 sterling pounds for tuition and another 5,000 for food and lodging. She was good at managing her budget, she said that was more than enough. Me ...? Many things happened in the process and of course the budget got extended ... despite enrolling in a less expensive university environment.

That was slightly over ten years ago. 1997 to be precise. It will be much much more now I am sure. But the point is ... you can do it if you plan for it.

1997 was a bad year for Malaysia and the whole world ... time was tough for everyone who are not employed that is. I didn't realise it then ... never was good at national and economic affairs ...being overseas did that to you ...

At the airport as I was saying goodbyes to the family ... the airport officer who was watching and listening to us said with a smile... How is it in this bad times you are taking our money out of the country ...

Honestly I did not comprehend the seriousness of the situation until in the University when a Prof S... came to me at the Computer Room with a concerned look on his face. M.... he said. Are you okay? A lot of Malaysian students are going back. They can't afford to stay. If you have any problem whatsoever and need help please tell me, he said. Grateful for his concern, I assured him that I was prepared for this, financially AlhamduLILLAH... despite our currency sliding terribly against the British pound.

Overdue nevertheless, Dearest Sister, thank you for giving me the courage to pursue and realize my dream ...and another dream coming on ... hmm ... that PhD ... insyaALLAH. Definitely I believe that dreams are made in our minds and supported by great sisters, many things can happen InsyaALLAH ...

Love and salam ...:-)
