Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
Assalamualaikum wbt ...
AlhamduLillah syukur ... for moments to reflect and remember the unlimited blessings of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala ...
~
many things i would like to record and share about the ziarah to the Holy Land ... and i will do it insyaAllah bit by bit ... the heart will dictate the bit and the beat ...
~
for today ...
let me tell you about our Brother Guides ...
(aka Tour Guides)
before leaving for the ziarah, i knew from reading, conversations and the media about the history and the ongoings in the Holy Land ... but nothing prepared me as much as the Amman and Palestine Brothers who were representing the tour agent as Guides during our stay there ...
the Brother Guides explained not only the in-depth thousands and hundreds of years History of a location, but also the Spiritual and Religious significance and attachments, and the restive undercurrents of spirits held by zulm ... guiding was interwoven with the call for amar makruf that punched the heart ...
they are a special lot of brother guides ... they give you not only understanding about a location and situation but also entrenched your heart with both happiness and sorrow about it ...
i was deeply touched by their sincerity about not only their job, but about their love, affection, sadness, and sorrow for the Holy Land, the refugees, the poor and Muslim ummah in particular within the Middle East ...
the brothers, they were well informed because the job was only a job ... but above and beyond they were Masters in their fields ... in private conversations i gathered these ... one had a Master in History & Tourism and in summer taught in the University of Bethlehem, one (ArabChechen) had a scholarship to study in Moscow and had knowledge of English Russian Arabic and one other European language (which i have forgotten) and used to work with several multinationals, had experienced life both with the Muslims and Non Muslims, and could elaborate a non-Muslim query on many common misunderstandings of Islam and the Muslims ... and he was not afraid to tell the truth but with adab ...
and the bits and pieces that i am going to narrate will be the bits and pieces that echo deep in my heart ...
dear beloved all ...
... to understand the soul of a city, gently nudge the heart of the guide ...

a historiography
" the variety of ways in
which history has been and is written, in terms of different
subject-matter, sources, motivation, context and genre. Underlying the
question ‘how is history written?’ is that of ‘why?’ (Citation)"
